Editorial: Let's help rebuild

THE Marawi Crisis is officially over as declared by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Monday, October 23, at the 11th Asean Ministers' Meeting in Clark, Pampanga.

"After 154 days of the Siege of Marawi by the Daesh-inspired Maute ISIS-Group," the statement that Lorenzana read before the Asean Minsters' Meeting read, "Or after a week since the Commander-in-Chief's Declaration of the Liberation of Marawi; We now announce the termination of all combat operations in Marawi."

Of course, Lorenzana knows that the Marawi victory does not end the work on hand, as global terrorism is a recognized scourge in these present times.

"While we submit that these tactical and strategic gains will not annihilate the ideology completely, we declare that this achievement is clear manifestation of how our regional cooperation can lead to a decisive advance against the proliferation of terrorism in this part of the world," Lorenzana said. "We hope that this operational achievement in Marawi in the Philippines will be the catalyst that shall bring to the fore future cooperations and partnerships not only against terrorism but also those that shall defeat other regional and global security threats."

The message loud and clear is cooperation; a message we can take up on our own as individuals not just to help the Maranao people get back on their feet again in the shortest possible time, but to spared love among the battle-scarred and broken, to heal the wounds that we cannot see with the eye.

We gathered a few organizations that are helping raise funds for the Marawi evacuees that may be useful, especially for those who do not have the luxury of time to be in that city and personally serve the people.

The Local Government of Marawi City, which has a satellite office at at #12 Guillermo Guevarra Street in Camague, near Mercy Community Hospital in Iligan City, has provided these hotlines for in-kind and cash donations: 0955-769-4404, 0915-972-4348, and 0930-009-1401.
