Soldier dies, 2 colleagues injured in Sagay road accident

AN ARMY sergeant died while his two colleagues were injured after their motorcycle hit a tree along the national highway of Sitio Balibag, Barangay Lopez Jaena, Sagay City, Negros Occidental Sunday, October 22.

Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, city police chief, identified the fatality as Sergeant Glenn Padernal, 42.

Wounded were Corporals Marlon Coso, 36 and Regie Litada, 30. All are members of the 62nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based at Barangay Bato.

Investigation showed the three military personnel were on their way to the city proper around 1 p.m. for an assignment when the motorcycle driven by Padernal swerved and slammed into a tree.

Mansueto said the soldiers were speeding, but investigators cannot determine if they were wearing helmets because the victims were already rushed to the hospital when they arrived at the scene.

Padernal died at the hospital due to severe head injuries while his two colleagues sustained minor injuries. (GYM)
