DTI to hold seminar on retail trade management in poverty-hit towns

THE Department of Trade and Industry Cebu Provincial Office, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), will conduct a series of trainings on retail trade management in the municipalities of Dalaguete, Tuburan, and Santa Fe starting July.

The activity is in support of the Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty Program (ASAAP) initiated by the National Economic Development Authority (Neda), an inter-agency program that aims to significantly reduce poverty incidence by creating employment opportunities, including self-employment for the poor.

According to the latest study on poverty incidence of the country, Dalaguete, Tuburan, and Santa Fe are among the municipalities in Cebu with the highest number of poorest constituents and have been identified as the priority.

To address this concern, the DTI and DSWD are coming up with a livelihood program that will support and enhance the standard of living of these municipalities.

DTI- Cebu Business Development Division Chief Elias Tecson, who heads the organization of the seminar, said the activity is geared toward developing locals to acquire different entrepreneurial skills such as management, marketing, finance and operation to become good business managers and by providing some of the poor with a financial means to start a retailing enterprise.

The project is expected to benefit 25 participants each from the pilot municipalities. The DSWD will properly identify the intended beneficiaries of the project. (PR)
