USLS stings Foundation U in UniGames football opener

MISSING last year’s UniGames of fault not their own, multi-titled University of St. La Salle (USLS) is back to regain its football throne with a 5-1 domination of Foundation University in Tuesday’s opener at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Memorial Coliseum in Dumaguete City.

Coach Norman Fegidero's Stingers came out aggressively with KJ Gedor scoring early in the second minute of the match but Foundation quickly equalized in the sixth minute.

It was the last FU could score as Charles Dabao and Tristan Kit Robles hit their penalties giving USLS a 3-1 lead at the break.

USLS’s flawless offensive worked and Elimona Usman’s penalty and another from Charles Barberan proved too much for the local squad.

USLS is lumped in Bracket A with FU, University of the Philippines-Manila, and De La Salle University. Bracket B has Negros Oriental State University, National University and College of St. Benilde-Greenhills.

The Stingers will meet UP Maroons Wednesday, October 25 for their second match at 1 p.m.

In men’s basketball, STI West Negros University will step on the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Complex tonight against Rizal Technological University in Bracket A.

The Mustangs are grouped with RTU, Holy Angels University of Pampanga and the Asian College of Science and Technology.

In Bracket B are Hercor College-Roxas City, Silliman University, and Foundation University.

In women’s caging are RTU, Norsu and Silliman.

The athletics competition will also commence Wednesday, October 25, at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Memorial Coliseum with walkathon, long jump, shotput, 100 meters, 4x200m relay, 400m; 1,500m and 5,000m run, and 110 hurdles scheduled.

Other track events will be staged tomorrow. (HGD)
