Official: no cops fired their guns

A TOP police official said he is sure the stray bullet victims that were recorded in this southern port city were injured by guns fired by other people and not by policemen.

This was the statement of Senior Superintendent Amador Corpus, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, upon learning there were four victims of stray bullet victims during the New Year revelry.

However, Corpus has yet to inspect the guns of the officers and men of the ZCPO that were sealed to ensure that no one among them would fire their guns during the New Year revelry.

Doctor Jejunee Rivera, Zamboanga City Medical Center spokesman, said the of the four stray bullet victims, three were male while one was a female.

Corpus said appropriate penalty would be slapped to any policemen who would be found to have fired their guns.

The sealing of the barrel of the guns of policemen to include military personnel has been a practice of the government for the past several years now.

The practice is aimed to reduce if not eradicate the number of stray bullet victims during the New Year revelry.(Bong Garcia)
