15T call center placements await job seekers

AROUND 15,000 jobs in call centers open this year for placement as more foreign business process outsourcing (BPO) firms are eyeing landfalls in the country, Labor department said.

Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Western Visayas director Aida Estabillo said that such job openings would benefit Western Visayas, considering that the region is home to some of the biggest BPO firms in the world today, as the Philippines is the world's top BPO destination.

As of the present, the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod and the province of Negros Occidental are the hottest BPO sites in Region 6 although call center industry is now starting to scatter in other provinces in Western Visayas such as in Roxas City, Capiz and Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental where Teletech has two of it's 19 sites in the country today.

Estabillo said that as BPO firms are targeting their landfalls in big cities in the provinces, local talents can hope for employments in 2010.

Call center today is one of the highest-paying jobs in the country, with their job requirements of good oral English communication regardless of the educational attainments.

Bacolod City, meanwhile, continues to be one of the hotspot for BPO industry today, housing multi-million contact centers such as Teletech, Convergys, Teleperformance, Focus Pacific, Transcom Asia, Next Level, and Alliance Call Centre.
