6 survive in sea mishap

SIX persons survived a sea mishap off the coast of EB Magalona town after policemen rescued them from a sinking pump boat on January 2, a police report said.

The passengers and crew members are Mark Vergara, 22, Shanie Mendoza, 17, Richard Zulueta, 33, and Shalen mendoza, 20, all residents of Barotac Viejo in Iloilo, and Leah Grapa, 33, and Mark John Grapa, 12, all residents of La Carlota City.

EB Magalona chief of police, Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mina Jr. reported that local policemen led by Senior Police Officer 1 Andronico Dequina and coast guard personnel Victor Polvora and Jorge Monil rescued the passengers and crew members of the said ill-fated pump boat.

The survivors were turned over to the Philippine Coast Guard after the rescue operations.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) Director Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix lauded the rescue group for the performance in ensuring the safety of the victims.
