#LoveWins: Pinoy celebrities joyful over US gay marriage ruling

FILIPINO celebrities expressed joy over the landmark United States Supreme Court ruling last June 26 that legalizes same-sex marriage.

They used the hashtag #LoveWins to show their support to lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people and put rainbow colors in their pictures to promote gender equality.

LGBT personalities such as Aiza Seguerra, Rajo Laurel, and John Lapus joined in the celebration.

Love will always win.

Actress Ruffa Gutierrez meanwhile retweeted transgender model Sophia Abella to show her support.

Radio host Sam YG posted his version of #LoveWins on Instagram.

Tony Award winning singer-theater actress Lea Salonga also took pride that marriage equality has come to the US, the 23rd nation to allow gay unions since The Netherlands started it in 2001.

Same-sex marriage is illegal in the Philippines, Asia's only majority Catholic country, as Malacañang maintains that the proposal needs to pass Congress.

But a gay rights advocate took another route by filing a petition before the Supreme Court in late May seeking to declare unconstitutional some provisions of the Family Code, which only recognizes marriage between a man and woman. (Jan Keanu Plantilla, UST intern/Sunnex)
