THE “Bakbakan sa Sinulog” boxing extravaganza on Jan. 14 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino will be spiced up with two amateur exhibition bouts featuring members of the RP National boxing team.
Adonis Cabalquinto and Jimmy Vallares will face each other in a three-round match, while female boxers Karin Jane Recaido and Iris Magno will face off in a four-round fight.
“We want to showcase our amateur boxers and promote amateur boxing in Cebu,” said Patrick Gregorio of Smart Sports, who is co-promoting the event with ALA Promotions.
Smart Sports is continuing its unwavering support of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) and are further encouraging amateur boxing in the Philippines’ boxing hotbed, Cebu City.
ABAP will be having much-needed help as ALA Gym founder Antonio L. Aldeguer is ready to assist the association for its search of the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medal.
“My father is more than willing to help (the amateur boxers). He is willing to work with ABAP but nothing is formal,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, the son of Antonio.
On the other hand, the foes of Milan Melindo and AJ Banal--Anthony Villareal and Cecilio Santos--are scheduled to arrive here in Cebu City this Friday.
