BIR Cagayan de Oro tops tax goal again

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) District Office 98 (Cagayan de Oro) announced Wednesday that it has exceeded its collection goal for the month of December 2009, repeating a sterling performance it made in November 2009.

Tentative figures showed that BIR Cagayan de Oro has collected P215 million against its goal of P198 million, or a surplus of about P17 million, compared with its collection of P142 million during the same period last year.

The 2009 whole collections surpassed that of 2008 by 200 million or 10 percent.

The feat, according to the BIR, showed that the plans, programs and policies rolled out by the administration of revenue district officer Noel B. Gonzales has gone full swing and elicited positive response from the taxpaying public as manifested in the department's consecutive two months excess collections over its goals.

Esmeralda M. Tabule, BIR Northern Mindanao director, said District Office 98 is the best performing district in the entire region.

Against cumulative goal, however, RDO 98 may not have met its target but the ratio of district collection shortfall is way lower than that of the national revenue deficit.

In the coming months, RDO 98 may have easy time in meeting its goal as an offshoot of the right BIR programs and policies established by Gonzales.

In recognition of an excellent revenue service, Gonzales was transferred and due to report to Revenue District Office 113-West in Davao City.

With his transfer, Gonzales wish to express his heartfelt thanks to the taxpaying public of Cagayan de Oro, the business sector and the heads of the local and national agencies including the hardworking staff of BIR District Office 98.
