THE Department of Justice (DOJ) filed two counts of murder charges against Senator Panfilo Lacson before the Manila Regional Trial court, Thursday.

It is in connection with the November 2000 abduction and killings of publicist Salvador "Bubby" Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito, DOJ said.

A panel of prosecutors led by Senior State Prosecutor Peter Ong has found probable cause to charge Lacson based on the positive testimony of witnesses and physical evidence gathered by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

No bail was recommended for Lacson's provisional liberty, but the panel said it is up to the court to decide whether or not to issue a warrant of arrest.

"This is a crime punishable by more than six years, so he cannot invoke immunity," prosecutors said. (Evangeline C. de Vera)
