'Bang Before the Gun Ban' fires off today

FIVE stages of non-stop shooting competition will ironically start the official Commission on Election gun ban on January 10 at the Prime Hills shooting range in Tuba, Benguet.

The 108 rounds Philippine Practical Shooting Association level 1 sanctioned match dubbed 'Bang Before the Gun Ban' will have categories in the open, modified, standard, production, and range officers match.

Another set of trophies will be given to the over-all champion including the first, second and third runners-up.

Organized by the Metro-Baguio Practical Shooters Association trophies await the top five finishers in every category aiming to gather responsible gun owners who will meet for camaraderie and informing the public before the gun ban takes effect.

The gun ban is in preparation for the May 10 national and local election.

The total gun ban would be implemented for the duration of the election period from January 10 to June 9. This will also include airsoft guns, and other replicas.

Organizers said the shooting competition also aims to strengthen awareness, consciousness and interest in the sport for the public and private individual whom a number have found significance in the promotion of gun safety and responsible ownership.

Practical shooting has been the fastest growing shooting sport in the world to date combining the elements of speed, power, and accuracy, it is a venue which seeks to develop and test an individual's shooting skills in a controlled sporting environment. (Roderick Osis)
