Cesafi to adopt ‘baranggayan’ rules

THE 2010 season of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi)-Partner’s Cup will open on Jan. 23, at the Cebu Coliseum with an interesting twist in the format.

The coaches and the organizers agreed to use the baranggayan/pasarelle format of fielding four sets of five players—one for each quarter.

“Since our main purpose of this tournament is to develop and expose the players who are going to play in the regular Cesafi season, why not innovate our format to make it more exciting and allow players to play at least 10 minutes per game?” Partner’s Cup commissioner Ramon Fernandez told the coaches and team representatives

during the meeting held at the Cebu Country Club.

Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy added that it would also level the playing field and provide wider mileage for the sponsors.

This year will also feature the high school competition – the first since the inception of the tournament back in 2007.
