A POLICEMAN was shot and killed by heavily armed men in Zamboanga City, a top police official said Friday.

Senior Superintendent Amador Corpus, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, said the incident took place shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday in the village of Lower Calarian, east of Zamboanga City.

Corpus identified the slain policeman as PO1 Ranger Ledesma, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Corpus said Ledesma was driving his motorcycle on the way home when shot by the gunmen, who remain unidentified.

He said Ledesma and another policeman, who was also driving a motorcycle, were on their way home when attacked.

Ledesma's companion escaped unscathed. Both of them are assigned with the patrol division of the ZCPO.

He said investigation continues to unmask the suspects behind the incident.
