Yong, Mancao lead 30-man marathon team

VETERAN runner Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal III will lead a 30-man team of mostly rookies in today’s Cebu City Marathon at the IT park.

Larrazabal, who will be joining his 10th marathon today, will be joined by Dr. Peter Mancao, James Abilla and members of the Police Regional Training School.

The group is aiming to finish the run in five hours and 30 minutes and will use the “three-minute run, one-minute” walk strategy.

The run-walk pace group is expected to be the first of its kind in the Philippines.

Larrazabal is joining his second marathon in over six weeks, having broken the four-hour barrier during the Macau Marathon last December after finishing the race in 3 hours and 48 minutes.

Meanwhile, last-minute entries has pushed the number of entries past the 4,000 mark.

Those who are joining the 42K race reached 513, while 671 signed up for the 21K division.

The bulk of the runners are in the 5K division with the number reaching 2,859.

Aside from the run itself , there will be pre-and post-run activities today, including a short fireworks display at 5 a.m. and raffle prizes.

Among those to be raffled off are a brand new pair of Newton shoes, Timex Ironman watches, and gift certificates from Plantation Bay, Holiday Spa, Res Toe Run, among others.
