A TOTAL of 27 teams in three Classes will see action in the 10th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Cup that will start on January 17, 2009 at the Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Twenty-five of the 27-team representatives were present during the meeting at Apollo Restaurant shopping last Jan. 8, 2009 to confirm their participation.
Mr. Tan Kek Pin is a basketball patron during the 70s in whose honor this tournament has been held for the past nine years and the tournament is managed and organized by the Fil-Sino Athletic Club.
Seven teams will see action in Class A led by defending champion Province of Negros Occidental, PD888 Handy Fix, Globe Asiatique La Salle Green Team, Globe Asiatique La Salle White Team, University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, Red Phoenix and Colegio De San Agustin.
Fourteen teams divided into two brackets in Class B and the teams drew lots during the meeting with bracket A composed of defending champion PD888 Tropics Restobar, East West Bank, RG Ballclub, Pag-Ibig Fund, Filsino Selection, Partsman while in bracket B will be led by Talisay City, Nepan-Globe, D'Twins, Bapro, Probac, Davies Paint. BBC and Pepsi will determine their bracket this week.
Six teams will also see action in Class C, the name of the sponsoring teams however have yet to be confirmed.
The tournament will last for two months with playing dates scheduled daily. Most of the games will be played at Tay TUng High School, but starting on Feb. 2, all Tuesday and Thursday games will be played at Nompac Gym. Tournament commissioner is Edward Maapni.
