BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) chief Senior Superintendent Celestino Guara urged city officials to enact a law that would order mall and department store owners to install close-circuit televisions (CCTV) cameras.
Guara said other companies who would want to impose security to their clients or customers can also apply the same principle.
With the CCTV, Guara said malls can have more stable security that limited numbers of security personnel cannot perform and for safety reasons especially against the burglars' group.
While cases of forcible car entry or the so-called "bukas-kotse", Guara said CCTV installation in parking lots and areas, in which cars and vehicles are usually parked, can greatly helped the police in fighting against the illegal intruders.
Earlier reports disclosed that car burglars' group that operates in Bacolod City were from Iloilo, which the local police has yet to confirm.
Guara cited a CCTV camera installed in a food chain in one of the malls in Barangay Mandalagan led to the speedy arrest of a cellphone snatcher recently.
Guara said CCTV is a big help for mall owners, the City Police, and the general public towards fighting against the car breakers.
Meanwhile, Guara received a compliment from Bacolod Diocese Bishop Vicente Navarra when the latter extended his congratulation to the former for a "job well done" in 2009 especially for maintaining peace and order in the city.
