Ciar: Piolo Pascual, 'An opportunity not a challenge'

ANG mosunod nga Q and A nakutlo niadto lang Lunes, June 29, atol sa presscon ug promo tour ni Piolo sa Cebu sa bag-ong pelikula nila ni Sarah Geronimo sa “The Breakup Playlist” sa Star Cinema nga showing na karong adlawa, Miyerkules sa mga sinehan. Lab-as pa gyud kaayo as in init-init pa. Maayo manubag si Piolo apan dunay mga pangutana nga wala niya hatagi og direktang katin-awan. Unsa ni? Basaha jud dayon. Piolo Pascual, Sssuper Ka!

Anong kaibahan ng “The Breakup Playlist” from your previous movies?

Malaki actually. I’ve played a musician before in Don’t Give Up On Us, pero this time I play, not exactly a rock star but one of the band members, who only hit it big when he commissioned Trixie, played by Sarah, to join his band. More than a love story, this time I have to dig deeper into the character of Gino because it’s really flawed, it’s more human, mas tutuo lang. Kasi nowadays it’s more important to present something that’s more relatable in terms of characterization. It’s all about the art of love, relationship and how love breaks us and makes us new again.

In terms of similarities hindi masyado.

Sa press release ng movie ang sabi kaya kayo nag-break-up dahil sa insecurities mo. What are your insecurities in real life?

Wow, di ko pa naiisip yan ah. Honestly, wala akong maisip. Insecure ako in general way pero to pinpoint something… I don’t wanna say I’m blessed enough to not think of my insecurities but I don’t dwell on those things kaya siguro hindi ko naiisip. Pero there are so many things na puwede tayong ma-insecure pero sa akin siguro I’d rather focus on the good things about myself.

What was your playlist during your last break-up?

Patay tayo diyan (laughs).. Ahhh… John Legend. No, not “All of Me”, that’s new. Yeah, maganda lang.

There was a press release that Sarah wanted to have a kissing scene with you. Then I read in another press release recently that Mommy Divine rejected it. What’s the truth behind it?

Ahhh… just like what I said we don’t wanna hype on the kissing scene because it’s just a kissing scene. If it’s important for the film, we’ll do it. But if it’s not, then I don’t see any point of promoting that `cuz what we’re promoting is the love story. I haven’t seen the final cut of the film though, kung mayroon we’ll find out tomorrow. Maski ako di ko pa alam kung ano yung lalabas sa premiere tomorrow, (gahapon, Martes).

If there’s a chance would you fall for Sarah?

Definitely. She’s one of the few people in this business that I can say there’s still some aspects of her that’s uncorrupted. It’s important to have your values intact and she’s one of the persons that practices that.

How’s is it working with Sarah?

But I enjoyed working with Sarah `cuz I never thought aabot ang time na magkakapelikula kami, so it was just an opportunity to just really know the person better, `cuz alam naman natin mahiyain si Sarah, napaka-reserved. Professionally, I know that she still has so much to give kasi nakita ko naman how she is on Asap stage, how she is when she perform. As an actress wala akong judgment sa kanya, pumasok ako sa pelikulang ito na wala akong pinanggagalingan, basta alam ko lang we’re on the same page in terms of making the film a good one, giving our best character-wise.

How do you describe Sarah as a friend and as an actress?

Pareho kaming ano e, pareho kaming mahiyain. Parang it’s hard for me… of course being a guy ikaw dapat mag-initiate pero hindi kasi ako… makuwento akong tao pag kilala ko na siguro and “slow burn” naman si Sarah. I mean you know, it takes her sometime to warm up the people, so minsan nasa set kami pero hindi kami nag-uusap, wala kaming pag-uusapan, pareho kaming soft-spoken, pareho kaming mahiyain. But in the course of time I guess nagkaroon kami ng common interest, yung music and acting. Unfortunately, we didn’t get deeper than that kasi we have to focus on the movie, we we’re working five to six days a week, so we had no chance to do other things. But I would say she’s a professional `cuz out of 31 shooting days nagdagdag lang kami ng isang araw, kaya naging 32 days in a span of two months.

How much of the movie is musical?

It’s not musical kasi pag musical they sing the lines. Since we’re both playing the role of musicians we did some gigs, we performed together and we composed songs. It’s music heavy because it’s our journey as a couple and it’s a vital part of the movie. That’s why we came out with a soundtrack and even before the story was made mas dumaan sa butas ng karayum yung pagpili ng mga songs because all the songs were related to the scenes.

What are the songs in the soundtrack?

The soundtrack has seven songs which includes the original themesong, “Paano Ba Magmahal,” composed by Yeng Constantino and the other song that she composed for me, “Patawarin” that I performed in the movie. Sarah also did an original, “Nagsimula Sa Puso.” Then I did a cover of Eraserheads’ “With A Smile” that we did a duet while Sarah did a cover of Kitchie Nadal’s “Wag Na Wag Mong Sasabihin” for her audition sa music camp.

May pressure ba to make this film successful, the same with the Sarah-John Lloyd movies?

In all honesty, napakaliit ng showbiz, napakaliit ng mundo natin para mag-focus tayo sa mga bagay na na-experienced ng ibang tao, so it’s a blessing that I had the chance to be paired with Sarah before ako tumanda ng tuluyan. I don’t see any point of comparing myself whatever she had before especially with John Lloyd because that’s history `e. Para sa akin I took it as an opportunity, not as a challenge.
