The scene

QUITE impressive are the 60 images of our beloved Señor Sto. Niño that are presently wowing not only out-of-town crowds, but our very own devotees as well.

The images belong to the various collectors of the Los Compañeros de Juego del Señor, headed by one of Cebu’s most avid collectors Louie Nacorda. He painstakingly and patiently, invited his colleagues like Inday Mae Mendoza and Msgr. Carlito Pono and others to join him at the SM City Art Center, where the exhibit will be on display during mall hours till Jan. 31.The arresting icons depict the Santo Niño in His many playful moods, such as Santo Niño del Mar, Santo Niño del Navidad, El Buen Pastor, Santo Niño de la Viña, Santo Niño de Abundancia, etc. We were particularly drawn to a cordoned area, where the Niños were all made of ivory! If you have one exhibit to see this year, make it this one!

All is festive this week, including the food. With this mindset, try the Seafood Market Buffet only at Cebu City Marriott Hotel (CCMH) where a grand display of the freshest, juiciest seafoods in the market are a feast for the senses.

We had never seen such a variety of Neptune’s Bounty, not only in great quantity, but of supreme quality as well. We tried their appetizers: smoked tangigue, kinilaw and poached shrimps; hot items like crab imperial baked in a creamy sauce and topped with cheddar cheese; broiled sole almondin, tender fillet of sole with toasted almonds; salmon head with laksa sauce; fried catfish Cajun. And don’t leave without savoring steamed grouper with soy and ginger!

Alongside the seafood spread, there’s also a full, succulent salad bar with a selection of mouth-watering dressings, soup, appetizers, the chef’s specials of the day, and a cooking station. That means simply point to the lobster or squid of your choice and presto, they’ll cook it for you the way you want it. Seafood Market Buffet is available only for dinner every Friday and Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
