2 dead, 42 others hurt in 3 accidents

Two persons died while 42 others were injured in vehicular accidents in Toledo City, Alcoy, and Catmon in the past two days.

Past 12 a.m. yesterday, Florencio Mahinay, 53, died after he was thrown off a tricycle in Barangay Matab-ang, Toledo City.

The tricycle driven by Ramil Cabonita, 33, was hit by a motorcycle driven by Christian Barcero, 21.

Mahinay’s wife Emerlinda, 46; Cabonita; his wife Ronalyn, 29; and children Ramjie, 8; and Siane, 4, were injured.

Barcero and passenger Wendel Juarez, 20, also suffered injuries.

Last Saturday, around 1 p.m., John Clark Sapini, 9, died after he was hit by a car driven by Engr. Gino Manuel Perez on the national highway in Barangay Daan-Lungsod, Alcoy.

The boy was crossing the street when he was hit by the car. Perez rushed the boy to a hospital, but the latter did not survive.

Perez reached a settlement with the boy’s parents, promising to pay them P100,000 as compensation.

At 4:23 p.m. on the same day, a van-for-hire driven by Junrey Barafon, 32, collided head-on against a minibus driven by Aurio Lavador, 58, in Barangay Macaas, Catmon.

Barafon, while traversing a blind curve on the southbound lane, overtook a vehicle traveling ahead of the van, which then encroached the northbound lane and hit the minibus.

Barafon and 15 of his passengers were injured. Lavador and the 17 passengers of the minibus were injured.

Most of the injured persons were brought to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod.

One of Barafon’s passengers, Gerlyn Ocarol, 21, was in serious condition. She was brought to a hospital in Cebu City. (KAL)
