PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal Arroyo enjoined members of the country's league of cities to help keep the May 10 elections fair and clean.

In the 55th general assembly of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) at the Manila Pavilion, Arroyo encouraged everyone to support the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in implementing the first automated polls in the country.

"The immediate challenge coming up now is for you to make your respective cities a model of free, fair and open elections. With the help of our newly established automated polling system, let's work hard to help the Comelec ensure this for the people of the Philippines and the people of your cities," Arroyo said.

The President herself is running in the 2010 election, vying for the congressional seat in the second district of Pampanga against Engineer Feliciano Seranno.

Arroyo in the same Assembly also enjoined the city mayors to continue to do their jobs as elected officials until the end of their term on June 30. (JMR)
