Battle of municipalities on Kasadyahan

THE Dinagyang Kasadyahan Festival competition slated on January 23 will be a battle of municipal festivals in Iloilo, showcasing the best performance and the town's best practices.

Kasadyahan is one of the Dinagyang ati-atihan competition highlights.

City tourism officer Benito Jimena said that Kasadyahan has evolved through the years and the tourism office is considering the movie to make Kasadyahan a full festival of festivals to be held either on April for the Semana ng Iloilo celebration or during the Tourism Month celebration on October.

Jimena said that Kasadyahan has become a major cultural event completely different from that of the ati-based performances. The dance drama focuses on celebrating the goodness of the Creator for the bounties given to the Ilonggos through a grand dancing parade filled with color and grace.

This year's Dinagyang Kasadyahan will be participated by seven local government units and two schools and municipal mayors and other local officials that will lead and usher their entry to the competition.

Doctor Eden Deriada, chairperson of the Kasadyahan committee, said the competition is composed of performance at the four judging areas and street dancing in between the judging areas. The four judging areas are at the Freedom Grandstand, Iloilo Provincial capitol, Quezon and Ledesma streets and Iznart street.

The street dance competition will be performed in three street stretches such as JM Basa Arsenal streets to corner Iznart and Solis streets; corner Gen Luna Quezon streets to Quezon corner Delgado streets; and corner Ledesma Izanart streets to Iznart corner de Leon streets.

The competing Kasadyahan groups are Tribu Tinuom headed by Cabatuan Mayor Ramon Yee as tribe leader, Tribu Tangyan headed by Igbaras Mayor Jaime Esmeralda, Tribu Patubas headed by Barotac Viejo Mayor Raul C. Tupas, Tribu Kasag headed by Banate Mayor Carlos Cabangal Jr., Tribu Pantat headed by Zarraga Mayor Gregorio Brazas, Tribu Jimanban headed by New Lucena National High School head, Doctor Charlie Coronado, Tribu Tubong-Tubong headed by Tubungan Mayor Victor Tabaquirao, Tribu Mandurriaonon headed by Dr. Azucena Falales, and Tribu Tambobo headed by Ajuy Mayor Juan Roxas Alvares.
