MEXICO -- A man attending the wake of an acquaintance was shot dead by still an unidentified gunman Wednesday afternoon at Barangay San Pedro, Camuning of this town.

In his initial report, Pampanga Police Director Senior Superintendent Gil Lebin Jr. identified the fatality as Marcellano R. Dizon, alias "Bong," "Tito" and "Boogie," 45, married, and a resident of the said barangay.

Lebin said that Dizon was attending the wake of one Dominador Catangal at about 5:30 p.m. that day when an unidentified gunman, described by witnesses as about 5'6" tall, medium built and clad in a gray long-sleeved jersey wearing a crash helmet, shot Dizon at close range.

The suspect then fled towards the west direction of Calulut, City of San Fernando, aboard a Honda TMX motorcycle without license plates, Lebin said.

The crime operatives recovered several empty shells and deformed slugs from a suspected caliber .45 handgun, which are now in the custody of the Regional Police Crime Laboratory in Camp Olivas.

The body of the victim was brought to the Manabat-Arceo Funeral parlor for autopsy.

Lebin said a thorough investigation is being conducted to identify the gunman and the motives for the shooting of Dizon.
