MANILA -- The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) is set to appoint its spokesman Joey Romasanta to be the country’s chief of mission to the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China on November 12 to 27.

Olympic committee President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. said in his

weekly radio show that he would formally endorse Romasanta’s

appointment during next week’s Executive Committee meeting.

“(I chose him) not because he’s been with me for a long time, but I

think he really deserves it. I think he knows what he’s going to do,”

said Cojuangco, citing the spokesman's experience in heading the

Gintong Alay project of then President Ferdinand Marcos.

Romasanta's appointment came as a surprise because he earlier said

that the Olympic committee has yet to choose the Philippine Team’s chief of mission to the Asian Games. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
