Peace covenant set for Bacolod bets

SAN Antonio-Abad Parish spearheads a peace covenant among the mayoralty and congressional candidates for the 2010 elections at the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Fr. Anecito Buenafe Jr. said Friday that the undertaking is a pure, simple and moral reminder for the city's candidates in the forthcoming polls.

He said the peace covenant is not just the absence of war but of any form of fraud, maneuverings, pressures, and influence to voters.

"It would also avoid the don'ts in the perspective of the church and keep the election period peaceful and meaningful," Buenafe added.

"This is within the Holy sacrifice of the mass, the prayer is intended for our political candidates, we still believe in the goodness of every person, we are all sinners but we believe that we can always change," he added.

Among expected to attend are mayoralty candidates incumbent Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Bacolod Representative Monico Puentevella, Vladimir Gonzalez, and Andrea Si.

Meanwhile, congressional aspirants are lawyer Renecito Novero, Anthony Golez, incumbent Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, lawyer John Orola, and Ricardo Tan.

Also invited to witness in the affair are 603rd BDE Col. Maximo Caro, Noppo Director Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix, Provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) Election supervisor Jessie Suarez and Bishop Vicente Navarra. (MAP)
