Dancers endure heat, rain

DANCERS had to endure the rain and the heat in yesterday’s Sinulog Grand Parade.

The sudden rain in the afternoon tested some of the dancers’ endurance and faith.

Leah, 15, one of the dancers of the Lanao del Norte contingent, said she has been suffering from flu due to practice sessions held under the heat and rain the past few days.

However, she endured and tried to perform her best despite the bad weather.

For his part, Barry Luche, Placer’s lead choreographer, said despite the heat and the long wait, their performance will serve as their “panata” (pledge) to the Sto. Niño.

For some children, dancing for the Sinulog Grand Parade would mean enduring the urge to relieve themselves.

“Naanad naman mi. Mangihi ra mi pagkahuman (We’re already used to it. We’ll just relieve ourselves later),” three young dancers told Sun.Star Cebu when interviewed along the parade route.

One of the female dancers said their choreographer and support staff would also make it a point to ask them to relieve themselves before wearing their costumes.

Another dancer, in a separate interview, said when they feel the need to go to the bathroom, they have been told to just go to their service van where a portable toilet is provided for them.
