Tourism department backs Cebu festival

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) fully supports the ongoing Sinulog Festival in Cebu City, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano told Sun.Star.

The tourism industry welcomed thousands of visitors for the ongoing celebration expected to translate to full bookings in hotels and resorts.

Sinulog, which is celebrated annually, is one of the grandest festivals in the country.

According to Durano, the tourism department provides financial contribution to the festival yearly.

"DOT gives financial contribution to Miss Cebu and Sinulog Foundation for their various activities," said Durano.

Reena Elena "Reena" Malinao was crowned Miss Cebu 2010 and Kapamilya Star of the Night last week at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.

Durano, a proud Cebuano, added that the aim of the celebration is to gather people together in worship.

"As a Cebuano, what is more important is the opportunity to worship and to thank the Almighty through the child Jesus. As long as all the merriment brings all the people together, Cebuanos and visitors, the events meet the objectives of our contribution," shared Durano.

"Pit senyor!" greets the tourism secretary to his fellow Cebuanos.
