Offers in solving garbage problem continue

OFFERS made by private groups and individuals for a solution to the garbage problem continue to come.

Very recently, a Canada-based company offered a technology that could help reduce the amount of waste in households.

Lawyer Abelardo Estrada, counsel for the group, said the technology was presented to Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas. Formal presentations of the proposal will be heard in a session of the Council.

Specifics of the offer will be discussed during the presentation but initially, Estrada said his client would only require a track of land, which could accommodate the daily garbage production.

He said his client operates a plant in Canada, which pulverizes waste and transforms its byproducts into something useful.

The Canadian offer is just one of the many proposals by several groups or individuals that promise to help reduce the costs Baguio currently spends in hauling out its garbage.

Estrada said his client’s offer has the same intention, to cut back on costs.

For this year, the City Environment and Parks Management Office said hauling out will continue until material recovery facilities in barangay districts are established and public approval is obtained for the city’s own engineered sanitary landfill. (Rimaliza Opiña)
