Davao bets ready for Davraa

THE Davao City shuttlers are ready to go to war when the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) badminton tournament gets underway on March 15 to 17 in Panabo City.

The city's elementary badminton team is composed of Irish Queen Molina, Marinel Diansay, Tim Andre Atega, Mary Anne Patricia Salvado in the girls' side.

In the boys' division, seeing action are Zandro Louie David, Estarco Bacalso III, Adrian Estremos and Richie Jude Olayta.

Leading the charge in the secondary category are Anna Michelle Alba, Louise Prieto, J. Tabunan, Edeline Hernaez, Jayson Quiben, Elderico Verano, Niccolo Bangayan and Kristoffer Hernaez.

Elementary badminton coach Jethra Villanueva on Tuesday said Davao City will have to rely on Palarong Pambansa veterans Molina, Alba, Quiben, Bangayan and Hernaez.

"The elementary boys and girls teams are bannered by beginners so we still have a lot of work to do. I hope the two months left in training will prepare them for the regional meet," Villanueva said.

Davao City is the defending champion in most events entered in the elementary and secondary divisions. It is favored in basketball, volleyball, swimming, football, tennis, chess, sipa, sepak takraw and arnis. (MLSA)
