Dole Western Visayas: Almost 17,000 available jobs await applicants today

ALMOST 17,000 local and overseas jobs are made available for applicants in Western Visayas through the “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK)” program of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) held at Mary Mart Activity Center in Iloilo City Tuesday, May 1.

Themed “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino: Dangal ng Lahi, Kabalikat sa Progresibong Pagbabago,” the region-wide activity is in line with the commemoration of International Labor Day.

Johnson Cañete, regional director of Dole Western Visayas, said the agency has gathered employers with vacancies in one setting in order to make job application easier and faster.

Cañete said aside from the job fair, the TNK Program also provides entrepreneurial lectures and other assistance to the participants through collaboration with other agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry.

“Job seekers, especially fresh graduates, should take advantage of this program,” he said, reiterating that job fairs are just one of the initiatives of the government on facilitating employment to the people.

Of the total job vacancies, 3,593 are domestic provided by 51 companies while the remaining 13,369 available works are overseas being offered by 10 firms, Dole-Western Visayas records showed.

In terms of local jobs, the agency reported that among the top 10 highest number of vacancies include customer service representatives, factory workers, travel associates, drivers, and salesmen.

Others are sales associates, accounting staff, health care associates, helper, and hauler.

For overseas jobs, there are more vacancies for nurses, housekeepers, laborers, fitters, steel fixers, waiters, cleaners, mechanical engineers, welders, and nurse aides.

“Job seekers in all provinces in Western Visayas including Negros Occidental may participate in the job fair,” Cañete said, adding that there will also be help desks where agencies like Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, among others, will provide their respective services.

Moreover, applicants are advised to bring multiple copies of their documents like resume so they can submit applications to many companies.

They also have confidence and pleasing personality when facing employers during interviews, the agency said.

In Bacolod City, meanwhile, there will be a “Walk for a Cause” for the benefit of child laborers in Negros Occidental.

Dole-Negros Occidental, in a press statement, said the walk will start from the Provincial Capitol Grounds to the New Government Center.

The program to be attended by city officials includes turnover of various livelihood projects to a child labor program stakeholder.

There is also a signing of the memorandum of agreement on the profiling and consolidation of data for Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program in the province, it added. (EPN/SunStar Bacolod)
