The services sector, being one of the highest employment providers in the region has a total job vacancy of over 3,267 jobs with the wholesale and the retail trade component as the highest followed by the community, social, and personal service employment.

It was under this sector that the 19-year old senior high school fresh graduate Niño Sunggahid was able to land a job on the spot. Being a first time applicant, Sunggahid was filled with joy and gratitude when he was hired on the spot during yesterday’s jobs fair as a sales associate in Gaisano Mall of Davao.

Sunggahid studied Computer System Services in senior high at F. Bustamante National High School in Tibungco, Davao City.

“I am grateful that I was hired on the spot even when I just graduated from senior high. It will help me assist my family financially. I am the third child and my two older siblings are already married. So with this new job I will really be able to help with the finances in the house,” said Sunggahid in vernacular.

Theresa Mae Pielago, a 22-year old technical vocational graduate, was also hired on the spot as cashier for Gaisano Mall of Davao. She said for this job’s fair she had tried applying to different companies also as cashier. However, it was only the Gaisano Mall of Davao that hired her of all the other companies.

Pielago already has experience as cashier, customer service assistant, and assistant section head in different companies in the city before she was able to land this job at Gaisano Mall.

Just like Sunggahid, Pielago was also grateful that she was hired on the spot as she also stands as the breadwinner of the family. The instant job she landed, according to her, will enable her to help with their family’s finances.

Both the two newly-hired applicants will just have to comply with their pre-employment requirements before their employment orientation scheduled for May 3 to 4.

The Labor Day Jobs Fair was part of the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) event of the Department of Labor and Employment Davao together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Davao.
