THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Western Visayas has registered a total of 1,068 applicants during its job fair held at Mary Mart Activity Center in Iloilo City on Monday, April 30.
Of which, 70 were hired on the spot, the regional line agency reported.
Johnson Cañete, Dole-Western Visayas director, said all hired on the spot applied for local jobs.
Those who were qualified for overseas jobs are subject to further interview, he added.
The region-wide job fair is part of the "Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan" program of the agency in line with the commemoration of International Labor Day.
Of the total registrants, 687 applicants applied for local jobs, while 381 for overseas work.
Dole-Western Visayas earlier said almost 17,000 local and overseas jobs are made available for the applicants in the region during the one-day job fair.
Of the total job vacancies, 3,593 are domestic provided by 51 companies while the remaining 13,369 available works are overseas offered by 10 firms.
In terms of local jobs, the agency reported that among the top 10 highest number of vacancies include customer service representatives, factory workers, travel associates, drivers, and salesmen.
Others are sales associates, accounting staff, health care associates, helper, and hauler.
For overseas jobs, there are more vacancies for nurses, housekeepers, laborers, fitters, steel fixers, waiters, cleaners, mechanical engineers, welders, and nurse aides.
This year's TNK program is themed "Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino: Dangal ng Lahi, Kabalikat sa Progresibong Pagbabago."
Aside from the job fair, the activity included entrepreneurial lectures, orientation on livelihood programs, and provision of assistance to the participants through collaboration with other agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, among others.
