Tomas pops into Yeosu, a sister-city, for turtle festival

TO promote business opportunities, trade missions, cultural exchange and tourism development, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is visiting Yeosu, South Korea to attend its 52nd Turtleship Festival.

Yeosu City Mayor Ju Cheolhyeon had written Osmeña to invite him to their celebration and further develop friendly relations between the two cities.

“As our biggest annual event is coming, we would like to kindly invite you and your city delegate to Yeosu Turtleship Festival, our historic and cultural event that will be held every May,” reads a portion of Cheolhyeon’s invitation.

Cheolhyeon has offered to shoulder the plane tickets, accommodations and meals of the delegate from the city, including the mayor. Yeosu is one of the foreign cities that have a sister-city agreement with Cebu City.

Osmeña will be in South Korea until Sunday.

Former councilor Alvin Dizon, who now serves as the mayor’s consultant on the sister-city program, joined Osmeña for this trip.

Dizon said that the City has good relationship with Yeosu, which previously conducted some medical missions in the city.

With Osmeña’s absence, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella assumed as acting mayor yesterday and will serve as such until the mayor comes back from his trip. (RVC)
