A FILIPINO-American producer received his second Emmy Award this year.

Marc Anthony Nicolas's "The Talk," which airs on CBS, won the Emmy Award for "Outstanding Talk Show" in entertainment, besting “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Kelly and Ryan,” “The Real,” and “The View.”

Nicolas is the only Filipino in the show’s producing team.

He was born in Manila to Teresita Rodrigo Nicolas from Pasig City and Marianito Nicolas from Sampaloc, but they went to the United States and became American citizens.

In an email to SunStar, Nicolas said he worked in the US first as a waiter at Olive Garden in Cerritos, California.

“Being a waiter was hard. I would work endless hours trying to make ends meet to support myself through college. At times, I would work double shifts (morning and night) to make extra cash. At time, I would only get $20 in tips. But I knew, my heart was becoming a television producer,” he said in the email.

Before becoming a two-time Emmy Award producer, he started his career as a TV production assistant.

“I have so much respect for the production assistants because I was once in their shoes. I worked 12 hour days and got paid a measly $4.25 an hour. I drove the producers to set locations, delivered their lunch, mopped the floors but I knew my dream to become a producer was going to happen. And it did! I was hired at MTV thereafter as a casting assistant and slowly moved my way up to a Casting Producer,” he said.

While working for MTV, he said he got a phone call from “The Tyra Banks Show” and that paved the way for him to start his new career.

"The Tyra Banks Show called me and heard about my casting/booking skills and set up an appointment to meet with the executives. God was watching over me and my dreams... I was hired and moved from LA (Los Angeles) to NY (New York) to pursue my career in the talk show world. It was the best days of my life. Sadly, the talk show ended after five years," he said.

With "The Tyra Banks Show" under his belt and on his resume, he was quickly hired as a producer on "The Talk” and has been with them for eight seasons.

Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood and Eve host the talk show, which airs weekdays at 2 p.m. EST and 1 p.m. PST on CBS. The hosts discuss current events, pop culture, celebrity and trending topics.

Nicolas was also recently named “TV Producer of the Year” by the Filipino American Press Club of California and also “The Outstanding Pilipino” (TOP) award for television by Maxx Promos 2018.

In addition to his busy schedule, he is the host of “Inside Hollywood with Marc Anthony Nicolas” on Manila Up TV, which airs on Saturdays on KXLA at 7:30 p.m. PT.

His segments cover the biggest entertainment and celebrity news. He has interviewed many celebrities, including his friend, Vivica A. Fox.

“I won two Emmys and I didn’t give up. The beginning is always the hardest. Think big, dream big, believe big... And the results will be BIG. Don’t regret anything in life. Go out and build the person you want to be and above all, have faith in God and believe that anything can happen,” was Nicolas's advice to those who also want to succeed.
