CHANUM Foundation’s Tam-awan Village celebrates its 20th Anniversary with exhibits featuring artists from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Three exhibits highlight the celebration at the Ayala Museum Artist Space kicking off the month-long program from May 1, with the show running until May 14.

Another exhibition opened on May 3 at the SM City Baguio and will run until May 27 and at the Tam–Awan Village Gallery which is open until June 1.

All exhibits are themed “Tam–awan @ 20: Celebrating Two Decades of Unwavering Passion for Culture and the Arts,” which gathers all artists the Foundation has interacted with over two decades of cultural work.

Over 100 artists are featured in the three venues in celebration and gratitude to all partners and stake holders’ significant role in the preservation and promotion of Filipino heritage, culture and arts.

Jordan Mang-osan, president of Tam-awan Artist Group and Chanum Foundation said the exhibition aims to give pride and tribute not only to the in-house artists of Tam-awan, but also to other artists from all over the Philippines who have been part of several events and projects of Chanum Foundation and Tam-awan Village.

The simultaneous exhibition is said to be the biggest of its kind yet to be hosted by a single non-government organization, bringing a wide collection of works from artist groups, the organizers are confident to give the exhibit audience a great and memorable experience like no other.

Chanum Foundation Inc., was founded in 1998 and began to reconstruct Ifugaos houses in Baguio City with the aim to make a model village accessible to people who have not had the chance to travel to the Cordillera interiors.

Building on the land near an abundant spring, the Foundation started with three knocked-down huts transported from Bang-an, Ifugao.

Tam–Awan Village now has several Ifugao and Kalinga houses, using the original materials and adding only new cogon roofs, traditional artisans reconstructed the houses and laid them out resembling the design of a traditional Cordillera Village.

Keeping with the spirit in which the village was originally conceived, Tam-Awan has become a venue for art exhibits and workshops; giving birth to the Tam-Awan Village Artists; formed to foster a deeper understanding; and respect and pride in the cultural heritage of the Cordilleras.
