TWO city pet peeves have been decided by the chief executive.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan has decided what to do with two city pet peeves.

The mayor said he will order the Public Order and Safety Division to dismantle the ongoing trade fair on Juan Luna Drive if they do not voluntarily leave, but will allow the Children’s Park Carnival to proceed.

Domogan said the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (OCSWADO) sanctioned trade fair operated by both Akier Camayog Hakim of Jambal Akier Events Organizing Services and Arcelita Atilano of JJ Trading must pack up and leave immediately because no extension has been granted.

The trade fair has earned the ire of citizens since day one.

Hakim allegedly violated some rules by setting up carnival rides without council approval, lack of landscaping, delay on payment for the bid, unprescribed tent size and look while trees in the surrounding areas have been compromised.

Two groups won the right to operate the trade fair for 30 days, bidding P4 million for the space and allotting another P150,000 for the park’s landscaping while part of the proceeds of the event will also go to livelihood programs as well as dialysis patients.

On the matter of the Belezar Ola carnival rides at the Children’s park, Domogan said the rides deemed unsafe have been ordered to cease operation to keep the riding public safe from accidents after reports of another child getting stuck reached his office.

The mayor said the cessation of rides in the area is punishment enough for Ola whose contract ends at the end of the month.

“Parusa na din yaan at kasalanan naman niya,” the mayor said.(That is a punishment and he should be blamed.)

Domogan admitted not allowing a carnival such as Ola’s to operate in the city and vowed to check all proposals thoroughly in the future.

For weeks, the carnival has earned the ire of residents and netizens because of the alleged gambling and unsafe rides.

Under the agreement with the city, the carnival will operate for 60 days until June with a lease of P500,000 including a P50,000 bond paid to the city in case of damage to the park.
