Miss Mandaue winners

A 19-YEAR-OLD nursing student from the Cebu Doctor’s University was crowned Miss Mandaue 2018 Sunday night.

Gabriella Carballo bested 11 other candidates in the competition at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.

Carballo, during the question-and-answer part, said she will help clean up Mandaue City. She thinks that garbage is the city’s biggest problem.

“I believe that a cleaner city is a healthier city and healthy minds create healthy change,” said Carballo.

The pageant’s top six candidates were asked: “As a young woman with an advocacy, which of the following would be the best vehicle for you to advance your cause? A. Being Miss Mandaue 2018 or B. Being elected as Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman of your barangay?”

“For me, the better vehicle to push for my advocacy would be to be Miss Mandaue 2018. I am here in front of you vying for this position, so I can spread word about my advocacy which is environmental sanitation and awareness (in) Mandaue City,” Carballo said.

The nursing student said the City Government is too focused on the city’s traffic situation.

“So if you all allow me to be your Miss Mandaue 2018, I vow to aid the Mandaue City Government, aid in their classes and clean-ups. And I promise that me, just in regular clothes, no make-up, no heels, I will help clean up Mandaue City,” she said.

Carballo also took home multiple awards: Best in Funwear/Production Number, Miss Skycable, Miss Maayo, Best in Runway, Best in Evening Gown and Texter’s Choice Award.

Completing Carballo’s court are Nicole Borromeo, who was first runner-up, and Regine Garcia, who was crowned second runner-up.
