Angeles City bags Regional Gawad Kalasag award

ANGELES CITY -- The Angeles City Government through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) won the 20th Regional Gawad Kalasag award for highly urbanized cities given by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) Central Luzon.

“This award is a proof that our efforts to comprehensively implement disaster risk reduction measures in Angeles City is now recognized by the national government specifically the DRRMO Central Luzon and the Civil Defense Office,” said City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.

Francis Pangilinan, ACDRRMO head, explained that the City Government now has a full department organized for civil defense and disaster risk reduction as well as emergency response.

“Mayor Pamintuan’s initiatives like the state-of-the-art command center, the city-owned ambulances and all-out support to the Bureau of Fire and the police are among the main factors for this award. Our barangays too which have fully-organized disaster risk reduction units,” Pangilinan said.

The 20th Regional Gawad Kalasag awards became a triple celebration for Pampanga when the Provincial Government also won the Gawad Kalasag award for provinces and the City of San Fernando was adjudged as the best DRRMC for component cities.

The Angeles City Government, the Pampanga Provincial Government and the City Governnent of San Fernando will represent the region in their respective categories for the national Gawad Kalasag awards.(AC-CMG)
