Bishop: May 14 polls is scary due to mainstream politics

BACOLOD Bishop Patricio Buzon said Wednesday, May 9, that the upcoming May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections are “scary” because they are still manipulated by the mainstream politics again.

Buzon said he hopes that those seeking for local positions would think for the people's concern and not for self-interest.

Because of the efforts to postpone the barangay and SK polls, the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PCRV) has little time to prepare the parishioners to get involved in the “Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful, and Peaceful elections."

Despite the lack of formal complaint with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), several interventions of politicians are noted everywhere.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said that this barangay and SK election is crucial to the 2019 elections.

There are also reports some candidates are using the government's Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to gain leverage to the voters. (TDE)
