Arsenals crawl back from 27-point deficit to beat Tracy Five

BONN John Orquiza scored a game-high 24 points and Arsenals rallied past Tracy Bloodlines, 94-93 in the 1st St. Ignatius de Loyola Summer Basketball League 26-above level on Tuesday at the Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

Raymond Penalosa and Jaddo Roa came up with 14 each for the breathtaking win.

The Arsenals had a sloppy start, allowing Tracy to hold a commanding 27-point lead that they trimmed down to 20 at the end of the second quarter, 59-39.

A searing rally had the Arsenals breaking the game wide-open and suddenly saw the Tracy Bloodlines clinging to a 3-point edge, 91-88 in less than 4 minutes left of the ballgame.

Then Orquiza converted back-to-back baskets to give Arsenals their first taste of the lead in the final half, 92-91 that was quickly erased by

Jong-Jong Lumactud’s pair of freethrow shots.

With the clock down to 27 seconds, Penalosa made a jumper that turned to be the winning basket as Tracy dribblers failed to answer in the face of the Arsenals’ tight defense.

“Fighting five lang ang Tracy Bloodlines mao nga nibigay gyod maskin taas kaayo’g inat ilang labaw,” one spectator said.

Lumactud paced Tracy with 29 points, while Ayong Vega and Ernesto Tagarda gave added 18 and 17 apiece.
