Editorial: D-Day

TODAY, we go out and vote for candidates in our respective barangays.

Negros Occidental, being one of the vote-rich provinces in the country, has a total of 2.431 million voters.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) had been reminding us to elect candidates based on their qualifications, integrity and commitment, and not those who will surely take advantage of their post.

Also, forget those bets and local village officials who are into the illegal drug trade as it will only worsen the situation of our community.

The poll body also reminded the electorate not to vote for candidates who are giving money in exchange of votes because they will find means to regain their election expenses which will result to corruption.

While there are allegations of vote-buying in certain areas, the Comelec and the police have yet to receive a formal report.

The poll body also urged the public to report any untoward incidents that may arise during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections today, May 14.

Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said the poll body will be ready to answer any questions election-related concerns through the 8888 hotline.

A voter, looking for his or her voting center, can dial 8888 and the call center agent will be the one to coordinate his queries and concerns to the concerned election offices.

Let’s go out today, let our voices be heard.

Let us also be vigilant on our votes.
