NPA owns up truck burning in Moises Padilla

THE Leonardo Panaligan Command (LPC) of the New People's Army (NPA) claimed the burning of a six-wheeler truck at Barangay Magallon Cadre in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on May 10.

On May 10, five unidentified armed men arrived at the area and burned a canter truck while workers were unloading the fertilizers from the truck that was parked at the hacienda road.

The fire destroyed an estimated P800,000 worth of damage.

In a press statement Sunday, May 12, Ka JB Regalado, spokesperson of LPC, said the truck owner is one of the landlords who implements contractualization.

The rebel group also alleged that the workers have no benefits and only get a salary of P250 despite their hardship in the sugarcane field.

Regalado said the group tried to talk to the owner but he did not face them.

Two days after the incident in Kabankalan City, the Mount Cansermon Command (MCC) of NPA also owned up the torching of a backhoe, other heavy equipment, bunkhouse in the dam project of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) on May 7.

The group claimed that their action was a symbol of strong opposition against the construction of the dam since it affected the livelihood of the residents.(GYM)
