Servania KOs Indon foe in 5th round

Bacolod City pride Genesis “Kashimi” Servania unleashed his punching power to stop Indonesian counterpart Jason Butar Butar in 2:04 minutes of the 5th round in yesterday’s (May 14) “Survival Instinct: Matira Matibay” featherweight bout at the SM City North Edsa Skydome.

The win gave the 26-year-old Servania his 31st victory, 14th via knockout, and against a defeat in his first comeback fight in the Philippines since 2015.

While the fight was one of his tune-up matches with Top Rank, the fighter from Barangay Punta Taytay is looking forward to get his big fight soon. “I’m so happy that my countrymen continue to support me even if I’m already based in Japan. To my family, thank you so much for being there for me,” he said.

In the main event, former Filipino Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga kept an unbeaten record of 9-0 with a stoppage scoring a 12-round unanimous decision over Colombian veteran Gabriel Mendoza.

The win also made Barriga the mandatory No.1 challenger to the International Boxing Federation mini flyweight world title.

Judges scored the fight 120-108, 120-108, and 119-109 all for Barriga.

The boxing card was presented by Joven Sports Promotion in cooperation with Knucklehead Promotions and ESPN5 Philippines.
