Tamugan watershed rehab eyed

THE Davao City Water District (DCWD) partners with Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. in further rehabilitating the watershed in Mt. Dipolog, Tamugan.

DCWD deputy spokesperson Jovanna Cresta Duhaylungsod said they started the rehabilitation of the watershed in Mt. Dipolog in 2005.

Since then, rubber and other fruit-bearing trees were planted, which Duhaylungsod added, helped with the income of the residents especially of the Ovu Manovo community. Other residents have since then functioned as forest guards in the area against illegal loggers and kaingin.

As part of their Adopt-a-Site project, DCWD recently partnered with Apo Agua for an adaptor that would subsidize the rehabilitation of another 50-hectare property area in Mt. Dipolog.

Apo Agua general manager Cirilo C. Almario III said they are estimating about an annual cost of P12,000 per hectare for the rehabilitation project. They also estimate the project would last for about six years.

Duhaylungsod said they are about 70 percent of the entire conceptualization and finalization part of the partnership. She added the partnership with Apo Agua is expected to result in more employment for the residents as well as maintenance of the facilities.
