Bzzzzz: City council numbers game ‘shifts’ to BOPK

PLUS 2 VOTES. It looks like the seats of ABC chief and SK federation head in the Cebu City Council will be filled by BOPK reps. It will change the present eight-plus-vice-mayor’s-vote, razor-thin dominance of Barug-PDP Laban in the City Council. It could be BOPK controlling the local legislature again once the count of partisans in a non-partisan election would be officially confirmed.

‘Black propaganda’

DID IT WORK? With the initial results, the propaganda waged by Mayor Tomas Osmeña apparently worked: those (1) lawsuits and (2) thousands of flyers smearing the name of Barug candidates. And the mayor might get away with what his rivals call black propaganda.

But even the Comelec may be clueless as to the election law violations Tomas allegedly committed. Given the numerous other transgressions, they might just disappear, along with the unlawful posters that littered in unauthorized places and the visual campaign ads that sprouted on the internet.

Cursing over fish

WHO’S SHEENE JEENE? She’s supposed to be the candidate for barangay councilor whose campaign flyer goes with a plastic wrapped fish in a photo posted by Political Circus Philippines.

Probably fictional, as well as the method used. Who’d buy votes with a fish? But the “creative” photo got the attention of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s Facebook account, which shared it with the pun: “Fishting Y**a” (asterisks ours).

Still no jet ski

FROM HYPERBOLE TO... It was a “hyperbole” in the 2016 campaign when then candidate Rodrigo Duterte said he’d ride a jet ski to Benham Rise, now called Philippine Rise, an uncontested island in the South China Seas, and plant the Philippine flag.

Yesterday (May 15), he was publicized to be going to the island for an anniversary ceremony, traveling on BRP Davao del Sur: still no jet ski. But even that trip fell short of target. He reached only Cuyugan Island, giving the word through his personal assistant Bong Go that Duterte’s son would substitute for his dad.
