A close relationship with the real estate industry

THERE is no better crown of competence to wear than experience.

Walking around the real estate industry for over four decades, Santos Land Development Corporation (SLDC) sales and marketing manager Estella Aguilos, has mastered the ups and downs and nitty-gritties of the industry.

She has been in SLDC since its early years of operations and had played a crucial role in keeping the company's banner stand amid challenges.

She started as an accounting staff in 1976 and promoted in the sales and marketing department in 2000.

"I was here during the shaky years of the company. We have to collect backlog collectibles in Pag-ibig, we almost fail but with everyone's hard work and intervention of God's grace, we solved it. I think it is really meant to happen, we are here to stay and strive," she said.

Asked if how they overcome the company’s problems, Aguilos was quick to add that they just planted the good seed and worked hard to save the company. Now, the company is stronger than ever and is pouring more developments in Mindanao.

“Surprisingly, when we asked ourselves if how we did it, honestly we do not know in particular. The inspiration that came into my mind was just, we just planted the good seed and everything follows. We just took each day as it comes and we made sure that we keep everyone (employees) in the company,” she said.

As the marketing and sales manager, Aguilos has made major changes for the company and industry’s good. She was behind the company’s incentives scheme for the brokers which are also used by other developers.

It is but a known fact that a career in sales and marketing in whatever industry and field is never an easy task. It means much effort and patience.

Giving a piece of advice, Aguilos emphasized that knowing and believing in the product one is selling is but essential to rise above the game.

“If you believe in your product you can convince your client but if you don’t people can see through you, you will find a hard time in your work and your time will be wasted,” she said.

The 62-year old real-estate player also emphasized that focus is also something one should master.

She said whatever one focuses on grows.

In her years in the industry, Aguilos said, she once served as president of Philippine Association of Real Estate Boards (Pareb) - Davao Board of Realtors Foundation, Inc. and is currently member of its Board of Trustees. Pareb is a national organization of real estate brokers.

With her experience in the industry, she became a catalyst of things in her ways.

“I have nothing to boast in my name except integrity. In everything that I do, I really wanted to contribute something that would benefit the greater good,” she said.
