400 job order workers terminated

MORE than 400 job order (JO) employees of Isabela town were terminated yesterday, May 16.

This was confirmed yesterday by Mayor Joselito Malabor, who issued a notice of termination which was effective May 16.

Malabor said the municipal government hired the JO employees in January and that they have to be terminated before they reach the six-month service which is based on the law of contractualization.

He said that some of the JO employees will be rehired in the month of June, depending on the priority projects of the municipal government.

The JO employees received P250 per day or P5,000 per month.

"They are already aware of the law and they understand the situation of hiring them,” Malabor said.

He also clarified that the JO employees were not used and terminated purposely for the just concluded Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Meanwhile, Malabor said that they now have 15 punong barangays who are allies to his administration while the other camp also has 15 village leaders.

"Our advantage is that their potential candidate for the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president lost in the Barangay elections," Malabor said.

He said they will field Barangay 7 Captain Reden Decena who won over Wilfredo Pluna Jr. in the May 14 elections.

Pluna, who was a personal secretary of the late Mayor Enrique Montilla III, is supposed to be the other camp's candidate for ABC president, Malabor said.
