Legaspi: Prepare your gas masks

THERE was a story of one small village where learned men have discovered a dragon was living on the moon.

They have seen a dragon in the moon using a long-range telescope in their small laboratory.

The town became very popular for it was only in this specific focus that one could see the dragon on the moon.

No one could see the dragon in other angels, and in other places. In short, it was only this telescope that one could see the lunar dragon.

People from around the world came to visit the place and get a chance of seeing the big lunar dragon.

One day, a little child came up to the front of the telescope, and got his handkerchief and wiped it on the lens for on it was a dead fly.

Distortion of facts, issue diversion, and “smoke screening” are ways to defocus anyone.

These were the strategies employed by many of our politicians to blur reality.

Take the case of the “tear gas” principle. The tear gas is not a deadly weapon but it is a way of destroying the focus of the enemy.

The reality is hidden under the smoke and the eyes become teary so that one could not see well the realities in front of him.

Our beloved leaders have used this technique to defocus the majority, and for the majority to focus on non-essential things.

Marcos think tanks used pornography as one of the means to defocus the anger of the people. It was a successful approach that they used.

The anger of the people was dissipated and most of them had been defocused by the pornographic films in cinemas.

Sex became the theme of most movies.

I wish my readers could relate to these times – the early 80s. It smokes screened the reality of the times –poverty, graft and corruption, revolution, and economic instability.

But as a smoke, it will some evaporate or dissipate, and so when it disappeared, the reality loomed.

The thinkers of Marcos could no longer do anything. They have to give up their leader.

These past few weeks, the tear gas was again thrown in. Many essential issues were covered by the non-essential but sensational issues.

The pressing issue of the day is the unpopular decision of the Supreme Court on the “quo warranto” case against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

The issue was covered up by a lot of petty discussions. The petty issues are failed presidential jet-skiing in the Philippine rise, Barangay elections, kicking out of top officials from the cabinet, secretary Tio’s removal from office, and the Kuwait employment ban.

These issues really covered the reality and the Filipino nation was defocused. The decision of the SC is one that had really grievous, and dangerous effects to the country, but we failed to discuss them and we were more engrossed at the stupidity of the Comelec for allowing overage candidates to run for the Sangguniang Kabataan.

The Comelec officials should be tried for inefficiency and all of them should be out. They are to be charged. But again the issue will be blurred by the luring oil price hike.

My congratulations to the think tank of Presidente Rodrigo Duterte. You are all brilliant and intelligent for covering up the reality of the times.

Now, how will you smokescreen the unconstitutional act of the Philippine president of not voting during the barangay elections?

I thought the president is our model.

Did I win in my boycott campaign? Just asking.
