A ONE-YEAR-OLD girl died, while her mother and older sister were injured in a vehicular accident on the national highway in Barangay South Poblacion, City of Naga, Cebu, Wednesday night, May 16.
Senior Police Officer 1 Ken Cabrera identified the fatality as Lemelfa Omayao, who suffered severe injuries in the head and other parts of her body after she was ran over by a bus.
The girl's mother, Maria Josefa, 37, and her sister Frechie, 13, were injured. They were brought to a private hospital in Naga for treatment.
Omayao was rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
Investigation showed Maria Josefa was driving her motorcycle with the two children as passengers. The vehicle was on the southbound lane with the Ceres bus driven by Jay Parilla Bercero, 33.
The motorcycle encroached the northbound lane as it tried to overtake the bus. At the same time, though, the bus executed a right turn and its rear portion hit the motorcycle.
Maria Josefa and the two children fell. Omayao was ran over by the bus's rear tire.
Cabrera said Bercero was detained. He will face reckless imprudence s resulting in homicide and multiple injuries if no settlement is reached. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
