FROM seven, the number of winning Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) candidates in Cagayan de Oro who will possibly be disqualified, rose to 14 as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) found more of them exceeding the age limit.
The City Comelec identified the SK winners facing suspension of proclamation as John Vincent Velez Bacarro of Barangay 32, Jomar Rentizo Salinas of Barangay 17, Joannie Tahud Binolirao of Barangay 4, Michael Macalaguing Waslo of Barangay Mambuaya, Ronel Dalao Yacop Jr. of Barangay Tignapoloan, Zaimer Nangcas of Barangay Tuburan, and Juvan Pagara Rivera of Barangay 29.
All won as SK members of their respective barangays.
Earlier, the Comelec announced the disqualification of Ian King March Pimentel Miyake who won the SK chairperson post in barangay Cugman, Michelle Jose Tamparong who was voted as an SK member for barangay 25, and Samson Roa of barangay Tumpagon who was voted as SK chairperson, for same violation.
Also included in the list were Darryl Jay Miego Romero of barangay 32, Jocell Lauderes of barangay 21, John Baltazar Padinit Joaquin of barangay Bonbon who were all voted as SK members of their respective villages, and Agustine Racaza Laron, voted as SK chairperson of barangay Indahag.
City Comelec officer Ramil Acol said majority of these elected youth council officials are mostly overaged while some are still underage.
Acol said the figure could still rise as the Comelec national office is still verifying and background-checking the SK winners all throughout the country.
Under the law, candidates who are qualified for the Sangguniang Kabataan posts should only be between 18 and 24 years old.
